An addition influenced by the minimal yet finely textured campus fabric, the Parker Hannifin Center for the Creative and Healing Arts & Sciences (CCHA) naturally blends into the highly regarded campus master plan implemented by renowned architect Piet van Dijk, FAIA in 1966. The three-story glass connector and classroom building maintains purity of form and thoughtfully crafted details, riffing off the contemporary warmth and playfulness of van Dijk’s original architectural gems. The new CCHA successfully connects the Nursing and Art Therapy programs with the adjacent Science building, making a physical and poetic bridge between art and science, encouraging cross-pollination in these studies.
Inspired by the building’s program, whose emphasis is on healing, the new CCHA building raises standards for healthy, comfortable environments. A key design tenant was to maintain a clean material palette of brick, concrete, wood and glass, using only that which is necessary. With a simple yet powerful presence, the CCHA embodies the essence of building more with less.
