Once an impermeable fortress set in a sunken court, Cuyahoga Community College's Metro Campus Center was the most disengaged building on the urban campus. Discarding a brutalist identity, it is now the central heart of the campus and community, bringing truth to the name “Campus Center.” The design strategy: to connect and activate. Shedding its heavy masonry skin, the building form is softened, transparent, organic. It is a beacon that welcomes all.
